Stay away from high-intensity, unfamiliar work outs. Instead, stick to what already works for you, be it yoga, weight-lifting or hiking.
Familiar exercise(s) would avoid your body from going overly fatigue. Your goal here is to keep moving and release endorphins, not to drain yourself while you are bleeding.

What You Are Wearing Matters
Certain outfits can add a lot of extra stress to getting your period, for example a leotard or swimwear. Consider putting on an outfit that has a looser and more flexible fit that gives you more comfort and support while you are exercising.
Of course, if you are a dancer or a gymnast, which means you are required to wear a leotard as a uniform, consider if there are other ways to ease your body whilst on period.
Pick the Right Period Product
Obviously, you can’t use a pad if you’re swimming laps. Tampons are the classic active option but some people find tampons irritating and uncomfortable.
Other options may include a menstrual cup, disc, or period underwear. Experiment with different products and see what works best for you.
Listen to Your Body
You know your body best! If your cramps are especially painful, it might be best to take a break, lay on the couch, and do / apply / use whatever to make your body feel better. Your body will tell you if you’re training too hard, and you need to be comfortable doing what’s right for you.
